1150963 2010-11-07 20:56:00 It's not quite that easy.

Usually speaking when you change the hardware that windows is booting from, it spits the dummy (At least it did up until XP when I last regularly tried to do it).

Are you wanting to do the installation of Win7 or just plain booting?

1150967 2010-11-07 22:58:00 IIRC, you need to create an ISO of the Win7 install (I think there's a free tool for this on the MS site), and then change the boot order on the machine you want to install to, so that it picks up the USB stick. johcar (6283)
1150968 2010-11-07 23:14:00 If you want to use a USB drive to install W7 - that's easy enough.

Assuming you have the DVD, install ISO recorder (isorecorder.alexfeinman.com) - right click on your DVD drive - Create ISO. Or skip that step if you already have the ISO file.

Download and run Windows USB ISO tool (store.microsoft.com). Load in the ISO you created, make sure there is a USB drive big enough to hold the file, and the program does the rest.

You then need to set the BIOS to boot from the USB drive to install it.

IF you wanted to have windows 7 on a USB drive, and that runs windows as a portable OS -- No Can do - "officially" its been made so you cant do that. One reason is as per what Chilling_silence advised.
