| 1150951 | 2010-11-07 10:12:00 | Hi All is it possible to have a virtual / ghost server hosting OS Commerce or Zencart with the SQL database etc all on my own PC. I am running Win 7. I know it isn't a virtual server but could find the right term I require. I want a method of tricking my system so it thinks it is communicating with a file server where I can install the Zencart software etc but to do it all on my PC - hope this makes sense. Do I need to create a virtual drive? I also don't want to host my own website as I don't have a static IP etc and don't want to fiddle with my small network. There are a number of reasons for trying to get OS Commerce or Zencart to run this way: 1. Need to train end users 2. memory hungry on the file server (my hosting package only has 10mb but this is for a friend who doesn't have hosting yet) 3. Not all that intuitive when not using the back end frequently so I need to refresh my skills 4. takes time to load up and test if lots of data/images etc I would ideally like to then upload what I have done including the database but if I need to start again it would be OK, the training of the new owner is the main issue. Thanks |

Thanks Yes, as your pc in running Windows 7, its a good chance the CPU is modem enough to have VT enabled which will drive Virtual server\pc on the hosted PC . . . Go here for VMWare's free virtual software . . vmware . com/d/info/desktop_downloads/vmware_player/3_0" target="_blank">downloads . vmware . com |
