1150648 2010-11-06 03:43:00 I can't get 98 to 'see' a network card.

Is this a DOS situation or what I might really ask is WHERE'S THE WIZARD?

Tell me it's not like Linux - please? I haven't written DOS-lines for ages.

1150649 2010-11-06 04:07:00 Should have a CD or Floppy with the drivers. Depending on the Software it may have an install File or you may have to run through the add hardware.

When putting in the network card, then starting the PC it should have asked for drivers - point to the location they are ( cd or Floppy) or even downloaded.

Teensy-weensy little problem with that .

NO ID on the card and NO discs- floppy-not floppy or any documents at all .

It won't see it in ADD HARDWARE - so it might even be dead as far as I know .

I really dislike regressing like this - but I thought it might be fun to get this old piece running, and the old computer too .

1150651 2010-11-06 04:46:00 If it didn't detect when you first put it in, then it could be dead, or the PCI slot is, one or the other. Either way, it will more than likely need drivers.

On the chipset should be some writing Example (image.made-in-china.com)- the chip in the middle of that card, is a realtek 81390 -- Anything like that showing on the card ?

1150652 2010-11-06 07:08:00 Gotta love win98. me and a mate had a good set of laughs booting it into dos mode then starting windows from the DOS command in an infinite loop untill it killed itself. then it was reboot in DOS mode, format c:, that command is actually valid (no hey! this will format the OS's installed HDD!) good laugh

as for network card, check for any sort of number on it and google it, eventually you will get something that refers to a PCI card, then google for the drivers

1150653 2010-11-06 07:17:00 If it has PCI slots, probably easier to buy a new NIC than mess about with the old one (usually cheap as chips, $10-15 here). :)
Then again, may not have '98 drivers with it :crying
