882012 2010-05-03 02:38:00 What is OLP pricing ?

Gee $849 Aussie for Office with Access.
That's a lot of money for a small guy like me.
I'll have to see if I can get an Academic version !

OLP is MS's Open License Programme, which is a licensing model that lets you deploy and then re-deploy (for example) an Office installation as many times as you like; the Volume License Key you use to license the app isn't tied to any one specific machine.

That's probably an over-simplification, but it gives you the gist.

That's about on par with Office 2007 pricing, as expected. Office 2007 Pro was about $1149 on release here at major retailers (though I've seen it for more like $899 at e-tailers).

If you were expected major drops in price level for the 2010 release, you were dreaming :P

I'm certainly not - especially when my Microsoft reseller is merrily trying to flog Office 2007 off at reduced pricing!

882016 2010-05-03 07:01:00 2007. The MS quoted is RRP NZD$1,521.90 ;)

The academic versions are pretty good if you qualify, $80 and you download it, a surcharge if you want a DVD sent to you, and you also get a free upgrade to 2010.

Interesting they say 25 max 2007 per student and max 5 upgrades to 2010.

They have gone cheaper over time, I remembered when I paid ~$300 for a older version.
Most people don't need the latest version, they may only use 2% of all the features ..

But you do get a free upgrade to the 2010 version with them don't you?

The academic version you do. The main one?

882019 2010-05-03 07:24:00 But you do get a free upgrade to the 2010 version with them don't you? A few facts:

If you buy Office 2007 any time between March 5 and September 30 of this year, you automatically qualify for a free upgrade to Office 2010 when it's released.

the "free" Office 2010 upgrade will only be free as a download. To get a disc, you'll have to pay a media fee. To get either, you'll have to give them your already activated Office 2007 Product Key and info from your dated sales receipt. Lose the receipt and you're SOL.

once you activate the Office 2010 upgrade, your 2007 key will be deactivated and unavailable for additional installs. If you installed that copy of Office 2007 on multiple machines, those Office installs will lose their activation and no longer be considered "Genuine"

If you buy but don't install Office 2007, you'll also be SOL until that product key is activated. Meaning you can't just buy a copy and sit it on the shelf.
