. . . and hope you had a nice day SJ .

Oh - I did!

I played some bass for a while, re-wired a tone potentiometer with a new . 1uF cap for some funky-Motown tone and added some new strings to a Fender P-bass .

I installed a screen door and routed out the door hinges and the latch mechanism, andf generally had a fantastic day .

Thanks for the 'help' with the JW explanation .

881085 2010-05-01 14:23:00 Personally I believe in the JW's teachings, even though I'm not a baptised Witness. And although I can't perfectly understand why we shouldn't celebrate birthdays, if that's what the Society advise then I go along with it. Greg (193)

That's not just an advisory, but well founded in the tradition of the Jews who never did it either . Remember that the Judeo-Christian religion hails from basically the same roots, although neither today actually follow those edicts well .

Even the Muslim faith uses the Abrahamic Covenant as it cornerstone of faith, so it is also under the same 'gun', as it were .

Until the post apostolic apostasy (try saying THAT fast, repeatedly!) in the first century with inclusion of state-endorsed rules and the general acceptance of a state/religion via capitulation by the then-church leaders and Constantine - and with the ushering in of saints and holy days of obligation - such pagan celebrations were also eschewed .

Those Christians found themselves circumscribed by the practice of pagan birth celebrations and festivals, and yet didn't allow such contamination . That didn't last long however and the rituals became invasive and grew in acceptance .

We just stick with the original, peri-Christian edicts and don't practice things that have been deemed exculpatory by 'new' ideas which went against the original .

Simple and not all that hard to understand I think .

881087 2010-05-01 21:46:00 Since virtually all Christian based celebrations are based on pagan ones I'm happy to be classed as pagan, but then again as a non believer I am probably not allowed to be pagan so will have to stick with straight atheist gary67 (56)
