1150816 2010-11-06 22:37:00 Change the Password, and disable the SSID display -- that will tell you how good the person is.

Hiding the SSID wont stop anyone who has he right knowledge or software, but it will soon show if the person knows what they are doing.

If you DONT change the password they will simply log back in again.(and dont use a simple to guess password)

1150817 2010-11-06 22:39:00 Ok then reset the router. With my DLINK there is a small hole on the side that you have to put a
toothpick or straightened paper clip in and hold it while you turn off. When you restart you will once again be in charge.

1150820 2010-11-06 22:46:00 probably a dumb question, But don't most wireless routers only allow computers directly hard wired to them access to the admin settings.
And change the damn password on the router and the key thingie(and also check there isn't a default? user setup)
and change and hide your ssid

1150822 2010-11-06 23:14:00 ohh no . . . I cant access the router page anymore asks for the password and user . . But its been changed what should I do? Can tell you right now whats happened , who ever it is, has changed the user name and password so you cant get in .

Only one thing to do -- As per what kjaada posted, reset the Router back to factory default .

Rename the SSID, dont allow it to show, and put in a STRONG password with the highest encryption it will go .

You have NO other option .

Hate to say it, but:

If the person knows what they are doing who's stealing your connection, it wont be long before they are back in .

Nope -- I can log into my router Via wireless, but of course it kills the signal the moment you apply any settings and the router reboots . But you simply just reconnect .

Um i'm not sure about hiding the ssid I know I should but i am sharing the internet and the people next door are rookies and know nothing about connecting to a wireless connection without it broadcasting its ssid . Thank you everyone .

1150825 2010-11-07 00:07:00 Its also a good practice to log into your router every now and than to see all the connected clients and if you see someone you dont know than its time to change the password. If you are giving your password to the neighbour, make sure he/she is not supplying it to others as well. ronyville (10611)
