880847 2010-04-29 05:00:00 If that happened in delightful little NZ, the cops would have chased at the same speed and it would have ended in a crash and most probably the death of the driver and/or passenger as happens with most police chases in this country.:illogical:mad:

Rather than chase them they should note the rego and pick them up at home. The police helicopter could keep track of the fleeing vehicle. Much safer for all concerned. I would think that they might slow down if they did not think that the cops were up their bum.

Has been a bit quiet lately. No-one has died from a police chase in a few weeks.

OMG you are programmed by the hysteria of our namby pamby media. The police disengage there chases here far quicker than in Aus or the States.

If the police always do nothing, it makes a laughing stock of the law!

"no officer someone stole my car and drove it twice the speed limit and parked it outside my house, wasn't me driving!!"

**Like there is a Police Helicopter in ever center and that one chopper could cover every possible incident! in Auck for example :waughh:

Put down spikes, if it kills the dickhead, give his organs to someone useful, they make the choice to run from the cops, its their own fault if they die and their families should be charged the cost of the cleanup, and if they kill someone else put them in jail for murder, cuts down on re-offending

A bit heartless, but I can't see why it would not work. And would too many people care if it did kill the dickhead? Better than killing innocent people as has happened in the past.

I'm certain I've heard of that happening - the spikes - a short while ago and it ended the chase. Perhaps the police need to learn from that incident and become more organised?

Not much use noting the rego if the vehicle happens to be stolen....

But the chopper should be able to keep them in sight, provided they have enough fuel.

880854 2010-04-29 05:27:00 Maybe the feds could get some missiles for their choppers like the yanks use on the drones to take out the taliban.
Or am I just being childish again?

880855 2010-04-29 05:29:00 It is not too difficult to outrun a helicopter - the trick is to be on a suitable piece of road to enable the straight-line speed to outweigh the helicopter's ability to cut corners and ignore winding bits. In Wellington of course, the helicopter is usually required to travel at maximum speed to avoid being blown out of the country backwards. ;) R2x1 (4628)
