1150448 2010-11-05 01:35:00 I have successfully MOVEd documents/pictures/music etc. folders from C drive to a seperate partition / data drive D.
Why did the original folders remain, unaltered, in C drive?
And is it safe to delete the originals?
The aim of this excercise is to release space on C drive, and to facilitate easier backup of data / D drive.

1150449 2010-11-05 01:43:00 What version of Windows are you using?, XP?, AFAIK, the folders go with the files IF you have moved them in the correct manner. There are though some folder that DO NOT transfer.
The empty folders will not take any space, i would however create a restore point before deleting them

Windows Vista Ultimate SP2.
MS Office 2007 Pro.

Note that although I have MOVEd the folders using the move function from the folder property menu, the original folders have remained at their original location, complete and accessable. As though the process has been to COPY them rather than MOVE.

1150451 2010-11-05 01:58:00 You should have used cut then paste, not sure if it works in Vista does in XP. Win 7 leaves then behind but I just re mapped all shortcuts to the new locations gary67 (56)
1150452 2010-11-05 02:03:00 Perhaps I should also have added that by using the MOVE function, the default SAVE location has moved with the folder, which for me is appropriate and satisfactory.
Surely a COPY or CUT and PASTE will do just that.

1150453 2010-11-05 02:14:00 I can't be bothered with 'My This' and 'My That' folders I just reassign the destination folder to be one I set up in a location of my choice.

'My Documents' is just altogether too MS twee for me, and what if they are not my documents anyway? What if they belong to somebody else? Should it be called 'Their Documents' folder?

Aaarggghhh!!! I think I need to get out more, I must be going stir-crazy............:help:

Cheers
