1150433 2010-11-04 22:18:00 Hi All,
I've got someone who has created some important word doc's and PDF files that he wants to distribute to his clients on a bunch USB flash drives that he's already imported from China :annoyed:
He wants to be able to lock down these USB flash drives so his clients are unable to delete any files on the drives (keeping all the files original). He's enabled security on the files themselves but the users still have the opportunity to delete these files.
Is there a software solution that can do this or will he need to get a specific type of flash drive?

Thanks.

1150434 2010-11-04 22:23:00 You could use something like TrueCrypt, but honestly, unless the drive has some hardware-level write protection, there are always going to be ways around it if they want to delete the files. inphinity (7274)

1150436 2010-11-04 23:00:00 How about...

1) Relocate all the files to a webserver
2) Create a shortcut to the web page, which will lead to clients to the files

1150438 2010-11-05 00:03:00 Put them on write once media (CD/DVD etc) and may them PDF files - if you need to, turn off printing, saving ability inside the PDF by using the security settings. psycik (12851)

1150440 2010-11-05 00:12:00 The issue with using optical disc is their size and the importance of preventing the underside from being scratched. Although it is cheaper than USB drives, the latter is superior in terms of reliability.

Converting all Word documents to .pdf and locking down all the .pdf files would make sense as well.

I advised him that CD-R's/DVD-R's would be the perfect solution but he really wanted to use his existing USB flash drives that he imported....
