1151682 2010-11-09 20:36:00 Hey, thinking of installing Microsoft Server '08 and setting it up as a cluster on 8 or 9 PCs.

Considering I've only read about what hardware components are needed, how do they actually run?

Can it run any normal programs, or does it require everything to be programmed in a certain way?

Are there any interesting things you can "play around" with on these servers, or is it pretty limited to running things like Folding@home?

Edit: Perhaps a Parallel Virtual Machine?

1151683 2010-11-09 20:54:00 What are you hoping to achieve? You won't magically get 8 - 9 times the performance of a single machine if that's what you're expecting. You'll get failover redundancy, load-balancing, and some degree of parallel processing, though. inphinity (7274)
1151684 2010-11-09 21:06:00 I understand that it won't be a major performance boost, I'm just interested in seeing how they run more then anything. Cellux (15145)

Its not really required unless you need an application up 24/7!
