| 882769 | 2010-05-06 06:11:00 | Ok, so I went down to the IRD to get my return, since I lost my job, according to my calculation I overpaid my taxes and student loan by several thousand. Now, I was told "sorry, we can't do anything about that. You gotta wait till july or august thats when we do all our calculation that's when you can get your money back". Now this is really annoying. I am not a bloody dole eating scum - I have been unemployed since September last year, I have not asked for bloody a cent. Since I am under 24, turns out I ain't eligible for Student Allowance since apparently my parents make too much ( I would get like 80$ a week - which is bullshit, and no they don't make all that much). It's not like my parents support, pay for my carp or anything. But the government says no, I say fine. I'll take the damned Student Living Costs (160 a week which I gotta pay back - barely covers rent). I ain't a criminal, I ain't bottom feeding scum, I just want my money, that I was wrongly charged by the government. And they tell me to **** off and come back in a few months. I'm running out of money, I have 20$ left in my account right now. All I know is IRD owes me money, I know Kiwisaver owes me money. The IRD tells me to wait and starve to death, ASB Kiwisaver tells me since I am studying most it's not a "significant financial hardship". I have no gas left, I have half a pack of smokes. And enough food till maybe sunday. What am I supposed to do? Ironically, if I wasn't studying I could go and ask for a ****ing hand out, I am studying so I can't even ask for that (which I wouldn't do anyway). All I want is MY MONEY BACK. Is that so damned hard? I am sure if I owed the IRD money, I'd have 22 of their agents on my ass trying to extract it from me via the infamous method called "anal rape". So yeah, life sucks. IRD sucks too. Why do they say I can get my returns if I actually can't? Lying bastards. I'm going to go and cut myself to make me feel better about myself. /rant |

| 882772 | 2010-05-06 07:17:00 | It's a matter of interpretation. A "Tax Return" has absolutely nothing to do with returning money to you (not something the IRD is reknowned for). A Tax Return is a declaration of earnings to the IRD, so they can be sure they have taken enough money from you. If you are friendly with an accountant, he/she may be able to act as an agent for you and get a refund assessment earlier than you have been told... My sympathies with your situation - I was in a similar position early last year. My beef was with WINZ. |

I'm not 100% sure if I understand what you're saying here, but if you qualify for any allowance (even $80), you can get that amount and then top up the rest with the loan, so you're going to have to pay less back. You'll also qualify for an accommodation benefit if you're not living with your olds. But yea, give up smoking LOL :rolleyes: |

And enough food till maybe sunday. What am I supposed to do? What you are supposed to do is go down to WINZ and get the dole in the meantime. Then you will find out not all WINZ recipients are scum and the purpose is to help you out while you get your life back on track. And be glad IRD owes you - I've just had to pay them. OK not as lot but hey, we've been broke for ages too. |
