| 1151730 | 2010-11-11 00:58:00 | Avoid any tech who says he will be able to do it onsite Totally agree to that :thumbs: Depending on the PC spec's, the amount of data, it can easily take all day 5-8 hours+ to do scans, then you have to fix the damage done to the system. Mind you -- Wiping a drive only take a few seconds - so I spose saying I could do it in under 5 mintes is true - just wont have a OS or anything else left on the drive --- buy "hey" the PC's clean now :p Sometimes,depending on what the infections are, its safer to save all your data, wipe the drive and reinstall from fresh -----Some of the infections are impossible to remove fully. |

I ran hijack this and malware bytes on both computers, I also uninstalled avg free and installed the one advised. There was some dodgy things picked up and cleaned. I have been monitoring my uploads since than and everything appears to be back to normal. I have now changed my internet banking password, (thanks for the heads up there). But because I live as rurally as I do, a computer technician isn't someone nearby. Never the less, next time I head to town I will take it in to someone. Although admittedly I don't go in very often at all. I want to point out how much good advice I received from everyone on the board, everyone was very helpful and no one talked down to me although I am clearly a complete technophobe and I do appreciate that!! I will return to pick your brains at another date, of that i have no doubt!!!!!! |
