Unfortunately they do go grey again and need to be cleaned again. The grey isn't just dirt, every time you get rid of the grey a little of the surface goes. The BBQ is blocking UV. "Ultra violet light reacts with lignin in the timbers cells and turns timber grey. This greying is not structurally damaging. Coatings help pre- vent greying. " www.timber.asn.au |

As with any exercise then it is best to talk to as many people as possible and look at all the options. If my ongoing line of enquiry and further questions bothers you then p*ss off and go post in other threads. Add an extra year to your life and stress about something that is important rather than getting frustrated at other people asking what you percieve to be unecessary questions. Get my point or do I need to make it clearer ? I think you have made your point clear enough. As you "have done with suppliers" I will be interested to see what advice you actually take. Tony made a point. "I've used Sikkens products elsewhere on the house and found them really good, and the Sikkens people were really helpful." Then you said. "Have you talked to them about which product they recommend to use on the deck ?" Hence my post. Why would Tony have to talk to the suppliers? |

Most manufactureres, but not all, make deck specific products. |

Most manufactureres, but not all, make deck specific products. OK. Point taken. But maybe you should ask if Vitex was the right material in the first place for the deck. People walk on decks but do not walk up the side of the house on a regular basis I suspect. In the first post you made you wanted to stop the material weathering and going grey. But you also don't want to use a stain. |

However the durability issue was a red herring introduced by me - the original post was just about greying. |

My Mum should have kept applying baby oil to my skin and I would not now be old and wrinkley perhaps. |
