| 1153372 | 2010-11-16 07:24:00 | My friend has a virus. hes got a lot of junk on his computer but ill worry about that later. he has win 7 hp x64 with msse. msse says system is protected, but there is this other program called "security tool" that keeps popping up saying there lots of viruses etc. the prog's main window is set to always on top, and it is begging to "activate the program to remove all the viruses" (not in those exact words.) I cant even open task manager without this program immediately closing it and telling me taskmgr is infected. same with hjt. im running a msse scan now, but it hasnt finished yet and so far hasnt found anything. whats the best way to at least start of by getting this program closed? I booted in safemode and ran msconfig but there was no sign of this program in the startup list... |

| 1153373 | 2010-11-16 07:32:00 | Is he on here? If he is tell him to boot into safe mode/ networking then post a HJT log. See if it appears in programs and features, if it is uninstall it. Or tell him to get teamviewer and I can check from here Boot into safe mode / networking first |

| 1153379 | 2010-11-16 08:06:00 | Its easy to remove - follow the instruction on this site (www.bleepingcomputer.com) - you start the PC in safe mode and run the rkill program thats there other wise it wont work. Security tool kills any exe file in normal mode and even some in safe mode. Removed in safe mode first, then rescan afterward to make sure. Scroll down to "Automated Removal Instructions for Security Tool using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" Disable system restore other wise it will reinfect on bootup. |
