1153357 2010-11-16 07:10:00 My laptop's Wifi is going really slow now . Speedtest show's only 0 . 3mbps compared to 9mbps before . The LAN works on the laptop but wifi does not give proper speed . Other wifi devices have the original 9mbps .

Seems to me that some program is limiting it . Or possibly a virus as it is also doing it on my dual boot with vista .
Am running MSE . Scanned but nothing showing up . Any better antivirus around to scan?

1153360 2010-11-16 07:48:00 Is it secure? Are you using WPA/WPA2 for wireless? How far away is it from the router? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1153361 2010-11-16 08:02:00 Yes it is secure, using WPA2 and am very close to the router. The other computers work fine far away from the router. This laptop use to do the same until a few days. My system restore was somehow turned off so I cannot restore. sahilcc7 (15483)
1153362 2010-11-16 20:42:00 I suggest these tests

Plug into the router(modem) via lan cable, TURN OFF wifi. (temporarily)
go to
http://www.nzdsl.co.nz/
run the speed test.
Run the speed test on the other laptops & compare.
This will show whether its a wifi issue or not.

Wifi can be a very fickle beast

1153363 2010-11-17 04:47:00 Yes. Done the test via LAN. Works fine with LAN but not on wifi. The other computer has the normal fast speed. It's either wifi card or virus/software... sahilcc7 (15483)
1153364 2010-11-18 00:09:00 Welcome to the wacky world of wifi

some sites never get reliable wifi on every PC. Just the nature of the beast.
eg: on one site ,I have seen wifi world great all the way down to the end of the blding, but be totally unreliable on several PC's in the same room as the access point/wifi router.
Other site may work brilliantly when they simply shouldnt (eg wifi router in almost the equiv of a faraday cage)

Try moving the laptop somewhere else in the room, try moving the router/access point somewhere else or try another height. Move the routers aerial around & see if that helps.
Move the laptop to the same room as the PC's with good wifi & see if that works (as a test)

I dought its a virus if it OK with lan cable
Good luck

1153365 2010-11-18 00:18:00 Try changing the channel on both Speedy Gonzales (78)
