Any thoughts would be nice.
I have been wondering if it is worth getting the i5 760. Not sure what motherboard to get with that one though. I didn't really want to spend much over $1200 but just wondering if it is worth it in the long run?

1153252 2010-11-16 01:28:00 You haven't told us what you want to do with the PC, but for a low - mid range home PC that's good. You won't get the i5 and a decent board for that price. I'd switch the graphics card to an Asus or Gigabyte if it was me though. wratterus (105)
1153253 2010-11-16 01:34:00 Sorry, haha, my aim is for gaming which is why I was wondering if a i5 760 would be a better investment.

I will probably get the gigabyte 6850 then but what is wrong with a HIS one?

1153254 2010-11-16 01:43:00 If it were me, I would go Intel i5, AMD just dont have the single core speed.....what size is your monitor
Cant say I like the re-badged 5850!!

1153255 2010-11-16 01:44:00 i3 are also good chips, and cheaper than i5s. robbyp (2751)

1153257 2010-11-16 01:48:00 Yeah but it's either a GTX 460 or AMD 6850. I had to make a decision on one or the other. Yukrato (14866)
1153258 2010-11-16 01:57:00 If you can get 6850 for under $300, then all good, however....once you hit $320, the ball then hits the Nv product for performance/price. SolMiester (139)
1153259 2010-11-16 02:06:00 Okay, well my monitor is 1920x1080, as you asked. I should hopefully be able to get a Gigabyte 6850 for $308 or a Galaxy GTX 460 for $303. Though the GTX 460 uses 2 6-pin cables and the AMD 6850 uses only 1, thats why I decided the 6850. Yukrato (14866)
1153260 2010-11-16 02:25:00 this chart could be useful

www.tomshardware.com

pays to read the whole article to appreciate what it really means though, and bear in mind the prices dont apply here so some local research is required.

Myself despite wanting to support AMD have gone the intel route. In the end though most reviews aggree a get good CPU and then spend any extra money on graphics first when building a gaming machine on a budget.

For now almost no games are pushing CPU's to the limit but many are taxing graphics cards.
