1152895 2010-11-15 02:48:00 Anyone using the Acronis Backup program.? Pato (2463)
1152896 2010-11-15 03:10:00 Used it for doing a Clone of Drives from the Bootable CD a couple of times, thats about all.

From memory it wasn't working to well on Windows 7 - says it was backing up, but when going to use/restore it had actually failed.

I started by doing a full backup and then Incremental backups. It appears to me that it just keeps adding the Full Backups. I thought it would cancel the older backups. At this rate my external 1TB drive will be full in no time. It is very difficult to get any help from Acronis, they just want your money and provide very poor help.

1152898 2010-11-15 07:20:00 I am going to ditch Acronis and try another backup program. Which is the best way to wipe any backups I have on my external hard-drive.? I presume a reformat would be satisfactory.? I guess Acronis will leave a lot of rubbish when I uninstall it.? Pato (2463)
1152899 2010-11-15 07:58:00 The backups On the Drive can simply be deleted.

As for removing Acronis - use Revo Uninstaller Portable (www.softpedia.com) Click here first (www.imagef1.net.nz) then from One of these (www.imagef1.net.nz) use the advanced mode - it will run the normal uninstaller, but if it asks to reboot DONT - click next, and it will then take out the left over reg and folder files. Then reboot.

And one that is not going to overload my external hard-drive and working it is not a strain on my old brain. Any suggestions.?

1152901 2010-11-15 09:05:00 Personally I use Windows home server to do complete daily backups but thats a whole server :D as well as backup certain files / folders nightly as well, all automatic.

If you are wanting to do regular backups, there are several programs available.

The one that I use to do files/Folders that I want to select automatically is Fbackup (http://www.fbackup.com/) - its free, and you can schedule it to backup to where ever you want ( another PC, backup Drive) or you can run it manually at a time you wish. You can also set it to delete the previous backup, or keep them.

This wasn't planned -- just writing this and look what popped up (www.imagef1.net.nz) at its Scheduled time (www.imagef1.net.nz) (edited) Heres that finished backup / zip file (www.imagef1.net.nz)

That fbackup is only one of many - it does work, never failed me yet - apart from when the server was turned off one night .

Other backup programs work just as well, some have different features, really depends on the person if they like a certain program over another.

Edited:
If you are wanting to do full system backups / Images, thats different again - and you would use different software.

1152902 2010-11-15 20:17:00 I've always liked acronis but I only use the cut down WD or seagate version and mostly just to make an image of the hard drive after a new install. To be honest I haven't tried using the windows 7 images so you have me worried now. If it has problems in 7 you can always make a bootcd and run it that way, should work. dugimodo (138)
1152903 2010-11-15 20:31:00 Thanks Wainuitech. I really appreciate your guidance.
I was thinking along the lines of a Full backup followed by Incremental backups. You have given me plenty to think about.
Reading the Acronis Forum, it appears that numerous people are unhappy with the program. It is a pity I never read about it before I purchased it.
