1152498 2010-11-13 05:47:00 I have an old ipod, and I was wondering if I should format it, I don't really need it anymore, but I use it to listen to music on my xbox because my ipod touch isn't compatible. I just want to empty it and not turn into a brick. Itunes tries updating, and I don't want to update. Will using windows to format the ipod brick it? (it's a 3rd gen nano I think) nerd (109)
1152499 2010-11-13 05:50:00 So what do you want to format it for? And why dont you want to update it?

Your ipod touch isnt compatible with what? Is 10.1 of Itunes installed, it was released today/yesterday

1152500 2010-11-13 05:59:00 My ipod touch isn't compatible with my xbox, I wanted to use the ipod sometimes with the xbox and when it's empty possibly use it for readyboost nerd (109)
1152501 2010-11-13 06:03:00 What? Not compatible in what way ? You mean its format? MP4 / H.264? Do you want to copy videos from the touch to the Xbox?? I doubt, that you can use an Ipod for readyboost (this is for windows not an Xbox). Did you update the Xbox, with the update that came out recently? You do know how to add videos from an Ipod to an Xbox right?? You dont just plug it into a USB port on the Xbox Speedy Gonzales (78)
1152502 2010-11-13 06:14:00 lol, no, I haven't updated my xbox recently, don't worry about it though, ipods aren't compatible with readyboost so it doesn't really matter, and I realized I could just remove everything instead of restoring it. Do touches work with 360's now? nerd (109)
1152503 2010-11-13 06:23:00 No Ipod is compatible with an Xbox (If you mean can you plug one into a USB port on an Xbox). It will see it but the only thing you can can use it for is backup. But then the Xbox will format it

But if you want to copy the videos on it, you'll have to convert them to a format that the Xbox can play. You can add them in WMP, then share the folder you put the MP4 files in, then share it. Then an Xbox will see them then play them. What version of windows is installed?

1152504 2010-11-13 08:45:00 Formatting the ipod will not brick it. the OS and other apple bits are nicely encrypted on a secure partition so you cant destroy it (as with any ipod) but since its encrypted you can't do cool stuff like installing rockbox or editing the GUI and layout :annoyed: The Error Guy (14052)
1152505 2010-11-14 10:24:00 use itunes to reformat the OS of the ipod (any compatible OS. It doesnt matter if you are using Mac or Windows). And use windows or any OS to reformat the storage part. jonkimnicko (10061)
