883522 2010-05-15 21:23:00 I only had it for a week, I find that it is cluttered .

It seems cluttered, without the proper system/display/network properties nor computer management .

Well it's totally customisable, so de-clutter it . I like it in that you can alter everything - separately .

Display is still there, right click desktop, personalize, choose whatever - it's still there .

All the System stuff is still there too, it's just a slightly different layout .

Likewise Networks, thats a bit more lame, but it's all still there . Network and Sharing, Change Adapter settings - gives you back the icon you were used to seeing .

883523 2010-05-15 23:46:00 I only had it for a week, I find that it is cluttered . Anyone like it, gotten used to it?

I haven't used Vista before .
Had XP up to last week .

By experience, I had a few oddballs .
By default the computer would sleep or hibernate when I was downloading something after I walk away for 30mins .
ASUS software sound would not turn on until I press default sound .
By default it installed HomeGroup so my other networks didn't work .
It seems cluttered, without the proper system/display/network properties nor computer management .
When I open many windows there does not appear to have proper menu's like FILE, EDIT, TOOLS, HELP . I see that Office 2007 is like that now (for WORD at least) as well as the included Internet Explorer .

My understanding is that Vista is like this as well as 2008 Server . :annoyed:

Cheers .

I wish they made 7 look the same as vista and released it as a service pack :crying

883524 2010-05-16 06:47:00 Well, they had to make some GUI
changes, otherwise you all would have
twigged to the fact that you've
just paid new OS prices, for what is, in effect
a Service Pack for Vista. :D

he he
You are probably right there !

But one feature that people are not mentioning that must be truly great for many people is the snap to the left and right feature. That makes it very easy to run two windows side by side.

I would have bought it just for that ! takes me back to Windows 3.11

And yes I wish I had read about Homegroup before I clicked on it. It seems impossible to remove.
So I'll just follow Speedy and use it. But my other two machines are on XP and Vista.

883525 2010-05-16 06:51:00 And to the OP
If things weren't different Win 7 would not be new !
So nobody would buy it !
All new OS's have features in different places with different names.
That is called progress (! dur)
In their opinion Microsoft must think the changes are for the best of all of us.
And I think they have a few people doing user tests.
Probably Bill and his wife ! (no probably lots of corporate users)

. Its not impossible-- Have you tried Instructions as listed here ( . mydigitallife . info/2009/09/05/disable-and-turn-off-homegroup-services-to-hide-or-remove-home-group-from-windows-7-explorer/" target="_blank">www . mydigitallife . info) - works well, every time I have tried it it's worked .

You dont actually have to disbale the services, after leaving the home group it should work on Network Places like XP . ( but without the wait)

883527 2010-05-16 10:12:00 A bit of weirdness getting a Canon MP700 multipass printer/scanner to work. Win 7 itself found and installed some of the drivers so that the scanner worked, but the printer was not found. I located later version Win 7/Vista drivers and other software on the US Canon site, loaded the drivers but printer still not found.

So I downloaded the latest XP drivers, installed those and behold, the printer was found and works ok.

883528 2010-05-16 10:39:00 Fixed. Zonealarm was the prob. It was blocking the network. I didnt know it was installed till now. Just have to go in (now or tomorrow) and add the network to it. If it gives me the option. I dont know if its regged or not yet Speedy Gonzales (78)
883529 2010-05-16 10:57:00 Told Nomad to uninstall ZA. It kept on freezing the system Speedy Gonzales (78)
883530 2010-05-16 11:03:00 :) Thanks for that. Maybe I have a older version of it on the laptop.

Have the latest version on the desktop PC and it works both ways.

ZA on laptop is registered and there is no settings to add afaik. You could drop the local network from medium (default) to low but that still blocks the network.

I'm just gonna uninstall it. Gives me a bit more memory back too.

883531 2010-05-16 11:05:00 I assume you've tried adding a range of IP addresses that covers your local network?

EDIT - to Zonealarm that is...
