883512 2010-05-15 01:46:00 Cool I have done:

Turn off password sharing.

I don't think the following makes a diff cos I am not with HomeGroup:
Allow windows to manage homegroup connections (recommended)
User user acccounts and passwords to connect to other computers.

I chose the 2nd one.

883514 2010-05-15 01:51:00 I have exceeded my data cap.
On win2k I cannot even view the W7 computer. It can only see itself.

Let you know if wink2 can be installed.

883518 2010-05-15 04:48:00 Just had Win7 Home Premium OEM installed for barely 2 days now on a new computer.
I find network sharing with Win7 to XP computers easier and better than XP to XP. All that has to be done is to Turn on network discovery, Turn on file and printer sharing, Turn on sharing with anyone with network access....Turn off password protected sharing.....and bingo there appears the XP computers.

Also, if you open Computer, under Network in the left hand pane, appear the XP computers on the LAN, and connection with shared folders appears instantaneous, no waiting for ages for them to be found.

883519 2010-05-15 06:46:00 Doesn't work for me under win2k. Win7 already have those settings.

Speedy, maybe Sunday, will PM you.
Have it downloaded on a USB stick now.

So much easier if we had a hard drive adsl router and a network printer.

883520 2010-05-15 07:25:00 So have you got a router or not??

The previous post you said:

So much easier if we had a hard drive (hdd for what)? adsl router and a network printer.

Before that you said:

W7 has a hardwired ADSL wireless router.

The printer doesnt have to support wireless, or have a network connection on it, to print to it wirelessly, or if youre using ethernet

We have a Linksys WAG54G which is a wireless router with no USB or HD feature .

I said, if we had one with a HD and a network capable printer (like a HP printer with Jet Direct) it would be simpler . Don't need to donkey around with peer to peer . We can share files on the router itself and not need configure windows nor need 2 computers to be on (and the printer) .

It also be more flexible if the printer is placed in the communal room cos it's a multifuncational unit, some people just use it for the photocopier feature .

We use wireless with the laptop which is downstairs, wiring cables via the house was a bit more work .

Plan to install Teamviewer tonight and if it works, we can do the remote thing tomorrow . Will PM you .
