I bought a game as a gift for my son, but he doesn't like it. Can I return it?

You can try, but the retailer is under no obligation to replace or refund goods because of a change of mind.

Yes, but go look up the bit that says I bought software and am returning it because of a problem.
They can't say no, you opened it so bugger off.
Changing your mind for no particular reason applies to all goods, not just SW.

1152671 2010-11-15 04:10:00 Yes, but go look up the bit that says I bought software and am returning it because of a problem. The problem was the OP just assumed it would run on Windows 7 - which it clearly (apparently) does not say it will. Maybe because W7 wasn't about when it was produced. If it had worked on W7 the Warehouse would have been the good guys for selling a cheaper game.

So assuming it would run on W7 was obviously incorrect.

There wasn't a problem with the Software - just the OS it was being installed on (W7). Had it been installed on XP or Vista it more than likely would have worked fine. If the software was faulty, then they have to replace it. But its not.

I assume I'm going to win lotto this week -- bet when I dont , they wouldn't refund my $

1152672 2010-11-15 04:10:00 But why should the retailer be responsible for the ignorance of the customer that does not ask.

so what would the rep says at the warehouse or harvey norman? would they know at all?

or would it just mean, the guy said yes, it does not work, therefore on their word i can get a refund.

1152673 2010-11-15 04:15:00 The reason they are so "Touchy" about software refunds, esp once its been opened is simply because so many people used to copy the CD\DVD, copy the Serial numbers and return it - Basically stealing the software. wainuitech (129)
1152674 2010-11-15 04:23:00 well some real computer stores might just say due to the complexity of different hardware configuration we cannot provide advice if and how it would work on your system therefore caveat emptor. *even thou if the box's requirements meet your system.

some nasty stores might even have a restocking fee even for hardware swap and the consumer pays the price diff.
