1153462 2010-11-16 21:32:00 Ok i'll swap out the PSU anyway, give that a go, although from reading those forums above, it sounds like a BIOS to hardware incompatibility issue, ill have a look and see if there's a new bios out there that fixes the issues with the 5770.

hmm, you would think that AMD would put the cards through compatibility testing with a large range of mobos, even if they're not high-end, before releasing a card. but i guess its easier to just make the end-user pay for upgrades. grrr..

1153463 2010-11-16 22:38:00 Looks like Speedy is on the money, however latest BIOS is July 2009 0413, which is before the 5xxx series I believe so you may have to put up with the issue or get either a different card or new motherboard.....I know what i would do! SolMiester (139)
1153464 2010-11-16 22:55:00 yep, going to semi hijack my own thread now.

MSI 870A-G54, anyone had any issues with this board?

im thinking i might pair this with an athlon II x4 and 4gb drr3.

if i sell my laptop i should be able to afford the lot and have some cash leftover.

1153465 2010-11-16 22:59:00 Cant say I know of anyone who's using a MSI mobo Speedy Gonzales (78)
1153466 2010-11-16 23:01:00 neither, i've always run asus. that's why im interested to hear people's opinions as it seems a very good board for the price, but if it's a poorly manufactured piece of **** i think i'll pass. mpc (16079)

What did the 5770 cost? $260?, why dont you just sell it and get a GTX460 for $280-$310 depending on model...would be far easier than mainboard swap!...

1153468 2010-11-16 23:34:00 hmm that comparison chart is interesting, other than the memory bus, the 5770 seems to outspec the gtx460, yet the gtx460 outperforms on all counts?

ok alphacity seems to be the best place to go price-wise, which should i get instead of the 5770?

1153469 2010-11-17 00:31:00 ^^ Of those 3, the Asus one, though I'm hesitant to recommend any of the 768MB editions of the 460.

Personally I would spend an extra $10 for the Asus M4A87TD EVO.

Throw it away and buy a QUALITY brand PSU, tomshardware has an article on PSUs at the moment - they are not all equal and cheap ones tend to be exaggerated and unreliable .
