1152801 2010-11-16 01:36:00 How susceptible are PST files to corruption? Is it only the large (2Gb+) files that have issues, or is any size PST a ticking bomb?

Its the older 2000/2002? versions mentioned above that corrupt as you get near its 2G file size limit. It makes a mess.

MS have a tool that basically truncates it down to below 2G to allow you to run
scanpst(etc) on it. Some email WILL be lost (dont have the link handy , sorry)
Another method is to try & import the pst into outlook express
or make new 2003/2007 pst(no 2G limit) & try & try to import into that. You may need to run the MS tool to cut it back below 2G first

Or the "Recovery ToolBox for Outlook", I'll have to try that next time , if the cust is willing to pay for it

1152802 2010-11-16 04:07:00 Thunderbird quite happily imported one for me recently. mikebartnz (21)
1152803 2010-11-16 21:57:00 Well blow me away that program worked!

Win7 doesn't come with Outlook Express, and Live Mail / Thunderbird didn't wanna import from it. I dunno how much is missing but that Recovery Toolbox appears to have done a damn fine job! So far he seems pleased enough to have parted with his moolah. Great stuff! Thanks all :)

1152806 2010-11-17 20:43:00 I've added "Recovery Toolbox" to my toolbox of recovery tools. :) jareemon (5207)
1152807 2011-01-24 13:04:00 Hii

I had suffered from the same problem. The main cause of the error might be oversized PST files. Microsoft outlook 2003 displays the error when the size of the PST file becomes more than 2GB size.

So the best way to come out of the situation is to cut oversized PST files using a third party application.

But if he'd been using the free stuff to begin with, he probably wouldn't have this problem ;)

 Oh the irony. Well as long as it wasn't OE, he would have been fine.
