1152782 2010-11-14 21:51:00 Just to clarify things, there was no attachment to open, there was just a message in the Inbox from the Windows Live Team. Seemed innocuous enough, given you do get mail from them from time to time.

The bit I don’t understand is how this jerk managed to pose as The “Windows Live Team”.

I would have thought the real “Windows Live Team” would have protected themselves from having their name hijacked.

Did anybody else receive a similar E-Mail or was I the chosen one? :D

Anything can be put in the From Field of an email, it does not mean it came from that address .
I could send an email with your address in the from field to make it look as if you sent the message .

1152787 2010-11-15 04:10:00 I screen all Email with Mailwasher before download and viewing the header and/or the full email shows the spoofed addresses . I got a Westpac phishing scam this morning .

It looks to me like you get enough information to launch a counter-attack if you have the knowledge and the means . You certainly seem to get the senders actual web address:

Westpac New Zealand Limited<ioqefj@secure . com>

You don't need mail washer to get the actual address .
Anyway the address is usually fake and it is the link to the website to enter your details that is the issue .
