teenagers, simply wrap it around them
and pop them in the corner until they
remember their manners!;)

884746 2010-05-14 03:23:00 The record industry want to wake up a bit. They could very will be shooting themselves in the foot. I use places like Limewire and Piratebay to download music to see if I like it or not. If I do I go out and buy the cd. I know of other people who do the same.

884747 2010-05-14 06:19:00 Sounds like they need time out from the computer until they respect your rules.

When my son misbehaves with the computer I block internet access from his machine using the routers firewall rules. My machine has and always will be off limits to him..

They come back with:
You tell Mr bla bla my English teacher I cant use the computer to do my homework and I will get detention for not doing it.
Only computer rule is no porn (kids are 12 and 14 at moment)

LimeWire has been full of trojans and virii for years. I can't believe people still actually use it.

This won't change ****. They might kill LimeWire, it being commercial, but what about FrostWire?

Not that I use it much, but no problems with trojans when using a mac. A bit of wasted bandwidth maybe.

It's a price and convenience thing.

For decades they have priced music at a level that vast numbers of punters find distasteful.

Then they added DRM to make legitimate use more difficult, undesriable and effectively more expensive to the punters.

Any wonder the punters choose free downloads?

Price legitimate downloads at a level that is a pittance to ALL users, and the desire to waste time on torrents etc will disappear.
With millions of people paying trivial amounts the cashflow will continue, and the piracy will shrink.

$0.50 cents per track, or $2 for the whole album - good value for both the buyers and the sellers. No pain for anybody.

884751 2010-05-14 12:28:00 @prefect: A good program to look into is Netdog http://www.netdogsoft.com/ lets you use a keyword file that they have made and you can actually blacklist any sites. And is very very hard to get rid of, or maybe K9 might be good also. nedkelly (9059)

They already have, people (their customers!) don't like being labeled thieves and pirates for format-shifting.
Always thought piracy (en.wikipedia.org) was
... a war-like act committed by private parties (not affiliated with any government (en.wikipedia.org)) that engage in acts of robbery (en.wikipedia.org) and/or criminal violence (en.wikipedia.org) at sea (en.wikipedia.org)and is too strong a word for the act of copying some digital files.
I don't personally download any music or movies, and am not advocating anyone else should, but you should be able to backup/archive any cds/dvds you own to avoid damage to the originals.
The companies with the content should get with the program, and use (buy out?) the likes of Limewire, and use those channels to sell their wares at reasonable prices (agree totally with Paul.Cov's post), instead of terrorising their customers with threats of legal action.
I think most people find downloading content is much more convenient than having to go (outside! :)) to town and search out a music retailer (less of them about!) and would be happy to pay reasonable prices for that convenience.

884753 2010-05-14 13:01:00 Ned - a much better one is advanced parental control.

not only does it filter any internet connections by site/keyword/etc but has many many more controls.

total time allowed for the day/week and times of the day allowed/not allowed

allow/deny permission to run any program on the computer (limewire for example lol)

and if you really want - log anything at all (yes, a key-logger) capture any pics viewed etc etc

the list goes on...

I've installed it on a couple of the family's comps for them, works great

in fact, it will do almost anything you could think of!
