| 884686 | 2010-05-13 23:54:00 | I'm sure that a few million $$$$$$$ thrown their way will soon pacify the bastards. :( Yep, and then when that $ has run out they will come complaining and bitching for more - dredging up some ancient case of injustice. How about this, the past is the past and the present is the present. Yes, somethings in the past shouldn't have happened (both in NZ and everywhere in the world) but seriously, grow up and get over it. Wonder if I can make a complaint about a toy that someone stole from me when I was a kid, and get some compensation for it now, after all - it was an injustice committed against me years ago... |

| 884687 | 2010-05-13 23:57:00 | They have been lightening up for generations. To the point where I don't think there are any full blooded Maori left alive. That's what bothers me as well. What constitutes being Maori? The older Maoris will have more ethnicity than the newborns of the last few years.By all means keep the traditions going. As someone NOT born in NZ my views have to be limited. However I do have children & grandchildren born here. When I arrived here in 1964 one had to have 50% Maori blood to be on the Maori Electoral roll. However you could go on the European Roll if you chose to. If you had less than 50% you could not be on the Maori roll. All these years later, how many can claim to have 50% or more. Can any of us UK expats claim any other ethnicity than having a white skin? Where did mine come from? Saxon, Viking, Gaul, etc.? Can I claim "Rights" from those modern countries? I doubt it. So get on with life, it owes you nothing. To those at the top of the Maori pile, I say, stop being so greedy & share what wealth comes your way with all the less fortunate Maoris. rant Over. Sorry . PJ |

| 884692 | 2010-05-14 01:04:00 | www.nzherald.co.nz I am pretty sure Billy T wouldnt be happy with tuhoe having sense of humour failure if he was still alive. maoris like making jokes about when their tribes dealt to an opposition tribe and they donged everyone on the swede and ate some of them. When a white person says something like that he gets into trouble. Perhaps you don't understand how things work. NO-ONE is permitted to tell jokes about maori except another maori. That is the only reason that Billy T got away with what he did. A European could never have done that. They would have been lynched! It is interesting, is it not, that it is permissible to tell racist jokes about any other race. The Irish must be one of the most maligned races in the world but you don't hear them complaining. As for Shonkey JohnKey making jokes about cannibalism - what could be more accurate? The maoris had a great appetite for human flesh. Everyone knows that. It's part of their culture, is it not? You would think that with all the billions (yes, billions) they have received from the Crown that that would be enough but it seems not. As Poppa John said, it would be good for the less fortunate if they could see some of that money. They are the maoris I feel sorry for. |

| 884693 | 2010-05-14 01:30:00 | They have been lightening up for generations . To the point where I don't think there are any full blooded Maori left alive . +1 I feel "New Zealanders" who are like 25% (effectively under 50%) Maori and run around calling themselves Maori are effectively disrespecting there OWN heritage such as Irish/English/Dutch etc . You can't cherry pick your heritage, you must celebrate all your Heritage which for most so called Maori includes European, and legally someone under 50% should not be allowed to legally identify as Moari . |
