I haven't used regular internet for almost a year now (was living on uni) and I get back home and realize that it is now a lot faster, where my speeds used to be <5 mbits, they are now double that. www.speedtest.net Anyone else? EDIT: How come [img] tags don't work? |

| 1153076 | 2010-11-15 20:05:00 | continuous upgrades have been going on, starting at the larger centres and working their way outward Telcom have been upgrading exchanges and installing cabinets for several years now. Even if you're not a Telecom customer most ISP's still use their network. When they get to your area speed tends to leap up overnight, for most people anyway there is a luck factor involved. I always connected and 2Mb (downstream), then 3Mb with a modem upgrade, then 8Mb when a cabinet was installed near my house and I changed to ADSL2. Now it's 16Mb on ADSL2+ with another modem upgrade. The thing with technology like this is it gets superseded faster than it can be installed, no matter how much is spent on the network it will always be possible to upgrade it more. |

Testing also occurring for friendly users in Glenfield and Ponsonby. VDSL2 announced by TelstraClear on 16 October 2008, will be released in seven main centres, including Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland, and Napier. With speeds of up to 30 Mbit/s symmetrical. From March 2009, VDSL2 line cards will be progressively installed into all roadside cabinets and local telephone exchanges in towns and cities with more than 500 lines by Telecom. From 27 May 2010 Telecom NZ will be launching a VDSL2 Technical Trial and will also be followed up with a Soft and Full launch in the months following. |
