2010-05-13 02:44:00 | You're in an elevator of a 10 level building. The cables snap and it falls freely to the ground. Just before the moment of impact you try to jump. What happens and what would you do if you were in that position?

2010-05-13 02:50:00 | You hit the bottom 0.001 seconds after the lift does, and your knees pop through the top of your head. Reason being you are falling at the same speed as the lift and without a jetpack you can reverse neither velocity nor momentum. With a jet pack your head would be driven through your knees as you hit the roof of the lift. What would I do? Drop to the floor, stick my head between my thighs, and kiss my arse goodbye! :o Don't think you could get your head that far down?? You will! Cheers Billy 8-{)

What happens and what would you do if you were in that position? You are already falling anyway, jumping has no effect!!! I'd try to open the roof hatch and escape! |

2010-05-13 03:13:00 | I'd lie down so more of my mass would be available to spread the impact. Pointless. The impact would be exactly the same as if you fell from a building and landed on your back from that height. There woudn't be much that wasn't broken, but in particular the back of your skull would be crushed. You cannot subvert the laws of physics. Opening your parachute wouldn't help either. :D Cheers Billy 8-{)

2010-05-13 04:11:00 | I'd try to open the roof hatch and escape! I like this idea a lot, it reminds me of the cartoons where Wile E. Coyote is climbing down a rope and the Roadrunner unties it at the top. As it falls, Wile E. climbs the rope like mad until he gets to the end then comes down with the usual splat. To implement this escape technique you'd have to stop at an earlier floor to get a stepladder, get back in, start it falling again then get out through the hatch in about 2-3 seconds. If you were too slow you'd get a stepladder up where the sun don't shine, but if you were quick enough you'd get to survive an extra few thousandth's of a second, then you'd be diced and sliced by the ceiling grid before decorating the porridge at the bottom of the lift shaft. One of the better and more decorative escape plans. Cheers Billy 8-{) :waughh:
