Today it is about the Mt Eden prison riots in 1965 where they set the prison on fire and took warders hostage. The event lasted a couple of days before they gave it up. SWMBO and I were on our way home to Napier after a family gathering in Auckland. As usual in those days, we were going onto the motorway at Khyber Pass but stopped to see the action. 57 years ago today. Time flies! These flashbacks are nice. Memories of walking the Harbour Bridge with Mum and pushing my kid sister in her pushchair. And lots more. What are your way back memories? Ken :) |

I remember how cheap everything was when I was young, 6 pence for a king size coke and 6 pence for a bag of potato crisps. 2/6d for a gallon of petrol. We went on lots of long distance holidays to South Africa, Durban, Margate, Capetown plus game parks, waterfalls and caves because the petrol was so cheap. |

| 1487492 | 2022-07-21 22:59:00 | I recall travelling on the Iris Moana and the Baroona ferries between Matiatia (Waiheke Island) and the Ferry Buildings at the bottom of Queen St, Auckland. The open sea between Mototapu Island and Matiatia can be quite rough in inclement weather, but the trip to Auckland on an early summer morning was beautiful. What a lovely way to go to work! As I recall the trip took about 90 minutes. That was mid 1960s. In those days you had to be at the wharf at 5.30 for the last boat of the day. | Roscoe (6288) | ||

Good old days!! timespanner.blogspot.com That was very interesting, thank you, Ken. I had no idea the name was aboriginal. Whereabouts on Waiheke was the bach? On the north side of the island I would hope. The beaches on the Auckland side are mostly mud flats. |

Bank sent me with a colleague to the BNZ Waiheke agency. We went to and from Wiaheke by Hydrafoil - Does anyone know why that form of Hydrafoil was replaced ? |
