This is my daughter's cat -now 4. The cat is very wary about the dog (belongs to daughter's boyfriend) despite having seen it close up several times

Well yes.....let cat down, so she can approach, run or smack the dog across the nose....they work it out...Cat doesn't look too alarmed, not all fluffed and snarling.

Stella my dog always tries to be friendly with a particular cat but I know that this cat is unpredictable and will sometimes do a quick swipe at us, I am very afraid she will do that with Stella. Mostly she rubs up against Stella and makes the brrr noise but I don't trust her.
