| 1487526 | 2022-07-27 21:57:00 | If you like fantasy and reading it's almost a crime not to read lord of the rings :) They are also great movies IMHO. . I loathed it. Read LOTR, Hobbit and Silmarillion. Nope. I read heaps, and fantasy as well. Currently working my way through K.J. Parker. Here's something else: www.amazon.com Bit of a con job. It's just Fire and Blood with more pictures. There are a lot of If You Liked This then Read That places and threads on the net. It doesn't work for the most part. What people like is fairly individual...and the same top however many lists pop up always. I have one friend, also a big reader, he has 20,000 books...and we agree mostly. But there's stuff he likes and I don't, stuff I liked and he doesn't. He hated ASOIAF but likes Mr Martins other books. He liked LOTR. So there we go...differences. |

| 1487527 | 2022-07-28 00:11:00 | Here's a link to a download of the first book, STARFISH, by Peter Watts: www.rifters.com Link to his webpages: www.rifters.com You have to search a bit but these books were and are available for free in legitimate downloads. Well worth reading he is a very good writer, not exactly fantasy but I couldn't stop reading them when I first came across them. I also did not enjoy The Hobbit, LOTR's etc. Here's a direct link to the first PDF: www.rifters.com |

| 1487529 | 2022-07-28 04:12:00 | I recognize quite a few of those names but by no means all. I stopped reading books about 25 years ago, now I only read what I find on the internet. |

| 1487535 | 2022-07-29 09:15:00 | I loathed it. Read LOTR, Hobbit and Silmarillion. Nope. Fair enough but I find it odd that you read all of them if you didn't enjoy, I'd have stopped myself :) Silmarillion is tough going and not particularly fun, more for hardcore fans after some of the lore than anything else. Now that it's been shown to be possible to make these kind of movies and TV shows well I wonder what else they could do, I'd like to see the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant myself among others. Maybe too similar to LOTR though perhaps. |
