This is what you get with Eset (the antivirus part 1101 mentioned)

If you go to the following site, there's test files that should trigger your AV, if they don't then the AV is useless.

www.wicar.org

The files are all harmless, just tests.

Go to a bad site:

1487041 2022-06-28 18:38:00 Thank you, Wainui. I ran the tests and each one brought up a warning so I know that I am protected, It's great to have that peace of mind. I have passed that on to a couple of friends who I'm certain will also appreciate it.

:thanks

1487042 2022-06-28 22:48:00 I tried that sites(above) browser tests on a PC that doesnt have ESET
Firefox still blocked those Browser tests regardless :)

ESET also has Intrusion Protection (HIPS) .
its sort of an anti hacker module . eg it blocks hackers from open RDC on PC's .
And good AV also has better anti Crypto/ransonmware protection than Win defender

1487043 2022-06-28 22:53:00 www.youtube.com

This Youtube channel has interesting info on Firewall, AV
he steps through analysis of the working of some malware , and tests how well popular AV blocks malware/crypto/ransomware .
he also shows how malware tries to disable AV (can be as simple as the malware rebooting into safe mode)
Windows defender doesnt look that good from his tests and analysys

:thanksDepending on the Sites, some browsers will stop potential infections, But there's a LOT that don't get stopped either, hence the need for a Active AV. :):2cents:

1487045 2022-07-13 13:51:00 A million years ago, having a software firewall on my computer was the only reason I found I had a keylogger, when it tried to phone home.

That was when I decided to always use a firewall, and also when I ditched Norton AV.

I was an idiot back then and fell for the marketing...
