How many crashes were caused by people who weren't drunk at the wheel So drink driving isnt as bad as some claim ? 1486912	2022-06-20 10:25:00	It's by no means perfect tech and you need to be behind the wheel and focused at all times . It still does take a lot of stress and Luckily here in NZ any tesla's with Full Self Driving don't have it in the streets yet . I would say it's driver negligence encouraged by marketing gimmicks (the naming of autopilot and FSD, for example) . They also should have better tech in there to make sure the driver is paying attention and it should have a shorter period where it times out and pulls over if the driver isn't . The Model 3 does disengage the autopilot if it can't detect any push back from holding the steering wheel . Tech like this isn't going to develop without it out on the roads though . Each iteration it gets better and better, though one has to wonder how in god's name they would be sorting through all of this mass of data they are receiving from users on the road . Nevertheless it's a little niggle- still some of the safest and most fun cars money can buy, and using autopilot is safe as long as you have your attention on the road all the time and are ready to intervene .	baabits (15242)

Its tech thats not ready, so why put other drivers, cyclists, the general public at risk with beta level gimmicks . There is no need for it . If we legally are supposed to be alert & watching the road , and have our hands on the wheel, then why even have it ? its just a gimmick putting lives at risk. Its tech still not ready for public release . The tech isn't going to be ready for public release without time and experience on the road, and processing of the data they get back to improve it. Cruise control was the same thing- there are multiple technologies that are considered essential today that were considered gimmicks when they were first introduced.	baabits (15242)
1486916	2022-06-23 04:15:00	Just to show the inverse; from the video now it doesn't look so bad but on the way to Auckland the other week I had the car going in autopilot and on a back road (100km/h speed limit) someone randomly jumped in front of the ute in front of me to cross the road. Car swerved out of the way by itself, and because it set off the sensors, saved a dashcam clip on the USB drive that comes in the glove box. dashcam footage of the above here: imgur.com I've also had a situation where it looked like we were about to get rear-ended and it has accelerated forward and gone in to the shoulder lane to avoid it by itself.	baabits (15242)
1486917	2022-06-23 07:50:00	All these driver aids that other cars have too such as lane assist, braking when too close etc, they all work but because in general humans are lazy they will start paying less attention when driving which will cause other issues. I personally will keep my vehicle that doesn't have any of those aids for as long as possible and then look for a replacement where they can be turned off as I want to be the one doing the driving not some automaton.	gary67 (56)
