1487266 2022-07-07 09:23:00 Hello
Has anyone of you used the earth for an extra light with additional switch?
Is it really a total no-no?
I can't add another wire through the ceiling nor want to add to the surface, hmm 🤔

1487267 2022-07-07 10:01:00 It's illegal to use a random earth as the Neutral return.

You need to have switched-Phase and Neutral to the light with a double insulated package around the socket holder.

Thanks @zqwerty

It's not stupid if you do it in your mother-in-law's room. With bare wires across the floor.

That's a really diplomatic way of putting it!:groan:

I'll concede that was perhaps not the best choice of words. But I stand by what I said. It is a stupid idea.
It sounds like notechyet was already aware of that though, when asking; "is it really a total no-no?"

1487273 2022-07-13 01:06:00 There is one way you can do it. Using smart switches which operate over WiFi. The catch is that you have to have quite good WiFi coverage where the light switches are mounted and you can get 230V to the other end to power that switch. The switching is done over the wifi so that when the "non-light connected" switch is operated, it tells the other switch over the WiFi to turn on/off.

Thanks @pheonix
Nah, I think I leave as it is. Though there could be another option with the existing switch to the existing (ceiling)light and add a pull switch for the second light. Of course the second could only be turned on if the first is on as well?
Just an idea from a non electrician....

I use the earth for powering gardens & lawns. It (earth) is a damn big thing and no way will it ever be light.
