1486655 2022-06-04 23:05:00 Ok, need help .

Until recently I would double-click on a file in F/E and it would just open . . . . pdf, Word doc, Excel . . . . anything . Nice and simple .

Now . . . I double-click on a file and instead of just opening I get a flashing icon in the taskbar, and have to go and click on that to open the file . Given I do it all day WFH it's becoming a pain in the ass .

I've Googled but as usual that process is over-rated .

Can someone please tell me what I need to change to have a file in F/E simply open when I double-click on it, just like it used to until the last week or so .

Thanks .

I lied, now it's only affecting pdf files. So somewhere there's a process about how the PC treats .pdf files in Explorer?

1486657 2022-06-04 23:57:00 Sounds like you need to change some file associations

1486659 2022-06-05 01:40:00 Yeah that's what's wierd..I don't have an Acrobat app. Or Adobe. That I can find. That I can right-click on.

Yet I can open and read pdf's.

Must have come with the PC.

Must have come with the PC. So what program is it opening in, sounds exactly like its been told to open minimized. The only "Default" program that opens built into widows is via a default Browser ( Edge, Chrome FF etc)

Edge it seems. It's the Edge icon that appears in the taskbar that I click on. I could never figure out why I have .pdf function without some version of Adobe, but then I never really cared as long as it worked lol

1486662 2022-06-05 02:57:00 This is a guess - reset Edge to defaults, may (or may not) undo what's changed.

To do that, open the settings (Top Right 3 dots) Go to Settings, on the left near the bottom Reset Settings.

Other option, install an actual pdf reader.

1486664 2022-06-06 16:11:00 Try www.sumatrapdfreader.org

No ads (Like Foxit Reader ended up with), no horrendous bloat (like Adobe Acrobat)
