| 1154540 | 2010-11-19 07:51:00 | I need a low cost business laptop that can run accounting software, office and do basic multitasking at a good speed. Any recommendations? | icow (15313) | ||
| 1154541 | 2010-11-19 10:20:00 | How low is low Cost? You can get a pretty decent laptop for around $1000, but i'm guessing your looking for cheaper? Im pretty sure a Asus 1005P would be fine (see link) and its only $509 www.playtech.co.nz |

| 1154542 | 2010-11-19 20:59:00 | I wouldn't recommend that Asus -- it would be murder to work on - Look at its specs: Operating System Genuine Windows® 7 Starter Display 10.1" LED Backlight WSVGA Screen (1024x600) CPU & Chipset Intel® Atom Pineview-M N450 Memory DDR2 SO-DIMM 1GB (Maximum to 2G) Wireless Data Network WLAN 802.11b/g/n @2.4GHz* Bluetooth2.1 + EDR* Storage 250G HDD Camera 0.3M Pixel Audio Hi-Definition Audio CODEC Stereo Speaker Digital Mic Input / Output 1 x VGA Connector 3 x USB 2.0 1 x LAN RJ-45 2 x Audio Jack (Head Phone / Mic-in) Card Reader: MMC/ SD(SDHC) Battery 11hrs (6cells, 48W/h *Subject to system configuration and usage Dimensions 262x178x25.9~36.5mm Weight 1.27Kg (w/ 6cell battery) Color BLACK 10.1" screen & only 1 GB memory :yuck: Even W7 basic would run like pig on that -- so you wouldn't get the speed you were after. Asus and Toshiba are fine usually. OR the business class HP's aren't to bad - but of course cost more than the low spec toaster shop rubbish. |

| 1154543 | 2010-11-20 03:05:00 | I've worked with a senior manager who used a HP Netbook :p Whenever he was in AKL or WGN he plugged in the LAN cable with his roaming profile. If you want something a bit larger - have a look at the business class laptops. HP I heard but not seen them in workplaces that much, not sure about Dell - they are popular but the ones I have seen are not that portable. Lenovo Thinkpad is a more popular one as too is Toshiba like their Portrege series (sp?). Thinkpad X is the most portable or the T series the best combination IMO if you need a optical drive and a high reso screen. Brandnew - almost $3k and heads up to $4-5k I guess. Look on TM. Something like a Core 2 Duo might be enough, like a Thinkpad X61/60 or T60/61 might cost around $500. You won't have HDMI or dedicated video even on the new ones, b/c business devices don't really use HDMI ;) They use projectors and stuff .. so they use VGA. You can if you get the boat anchors but they aren't really the "businessman" laptop or that "frequent flyer" laptop. |
