1154202 2010-11-18 10:07:00 I'm sure this question's been asked before, but haven't seen any really useful answers ...

I'm on a fixed broadband plan and have to watch carefully so that I don't exceed my limit towards the end of the month and don't get hit with massive excess charges or braking back to dial-up speed ...

Can anyone recommend an open-source or freeware broadband usage monitor program - something geek-free and genuinely user-friendly, that will sit in the background, that I can pre-program to let me know when I'm getting close to my limit, and give me a moment-by-moment indication of where my usage is?

Thanks in advance for any help.

1154204 2010-11-18 10:12:00 A router such as the Linksys WRT54GL running Gargoyle firmware is the best / safest / reliable / ultimate solution.
Surprisingly easy to setup too!

1154206 2010-11-18 20:47:00 Hi Badger

I'm in the same sort of situation and use NetMeter 1.1.4 Beta (www.metal-machine.de). It's free, you can set a data amount to give a warning, gives daily, weekly monthly readings and works with my wireless modem.

Hope this helps

1154207 2010-11-18 20:52:00 I have been using NetWorx (www.softperfect.com). Has daily, hourly charts, etc. In the end I got put off due to our high use, so increased incrementally by changing plans. So just go by the telecom stats, since now found our regular daily use bandwidth. kahawai chaser (3545)
1154208 2010-11-19 10:51:00 I agree with Kahawai, NetWorx seems to be good. NoTerra (16083)
1154209 2010-11-19 21:31:00 I use Networx, and NetLimiter2 Monitor.
NetLimiter shows which programs are accessing the internet, and how much bandwidth each program has used.

That's what I use. Not very helpful if you want a Per-PC account but if you don't care (like me) or only have one PC it works great.

1154211 2010-11-20 05:54:00 Netmeter used to be my favourite until I installed my NAS box in the garage (and Netmeter couldn't distinguish between data to it or the internet)
Also, multiple computers are a problem.

So I now use the one Snorkbox uses - TUC - and I'm happy.
