| 1153802 | 2010-11-17 01:52:00 | Ok, I have here a mates friends computer that just wont run. It starts sometimes, but then just locks up. It runs XP SP3 (if it even starts) and I suspect that it has been reset many times with the most undignified closedowns. Chkdsk doesnt work and tells me its a RAW drive? Partition Manager tells me the Drive has been Improperly Dismounted, error 1516. I guess what the problem is that the Active Partitions been damaged and needs repair, but what is the best way to do this without loosing everything. Typically, there is nothing backed up and all disks misplaced. (How do you Techs put up with this all the time?) NTFS file system on 80gig Seagate Drive. All suggestions appreciated. :thanks |

And test the drive after retrieving stuff and before the reinstall. That was my thoughts too, but I was rather hoping there was a repair utility that might do the trick, especially given we have no Operating System Disk or Drivers. :crying The machine looks relatively new, so the OS may be, or has been, on the HDD. |

If they're there, burn them. Then you'll have cd's / a dvd. Altho if XP is on it, it probably doesnt have a hidden partition | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||

Its the product key thats important. You should see my "tidy" draw :D |
