886912 2010-05-21 13:21:00 A friend has one of these she was going to put on Trademe for a $1 reserve, having just replaced it with a nice Toshiba (at my recommendation).

However I had a brainwave and thought the Acer (www.notebookcheck.net) might be ideal for another mate's daughter whose Dell D610 has just sucked a kumara.

It's in pretty good nick (but slooooow!). Looks to be about five years old..

I know this sort of question is along the lines of "How long is a piece of string?", but could anyone put a fair-ish value on it? I have looked on Trademe and there are no others of that model up for sale...

886913 2010-05-21 14:11:00 I had the AMD processor version of this, and sold it for $300 about 2 1/2 years ago. Cost me $2000 new about 5 years ago.

So yeah, not worth very much now. Maybe someone would pay $100-150.

.

Congratulations, recommending a decent laptop.

Now why would you want to inflict a worse one on her - tell her to replace the Dell with a Toshiba also.

886915 2010-05-21 23:29:00 I would - but the mate whose daughter it is for is a bit strapped for cash at the moment. I've started cleaning the Acer up (getting rid of the standard Acer junk programs) nad it seems to run a bit better. johcar (6283)
886916 2010-05-21 23:58:00 If it's going from one person to another, just wipe it and start from scratch. Also, it couldn't hurt to chuck a lil' extra ram in it. Laptops from about then had bugger all (by today's standards). I just chucked a spare 256 info the gf's (doubled it), ran so much faster! ubergeek85 (131)
886917 2010-05-22 00:43:00 Yeah - this one was reasonably top-end (for an Acer) when it was new. Has 1GB RAM, and is running OK now, without the rubbish they pre-install.

But really looking for an indication of value so I can keep both friends happy....

So far just one recommendation aof around $100-$150....

886918 2010-05-22 00:55:00 Well, I could see it selling on TM for between 400 and 500
It's not a bad specced machine for it's age...
