886028	2010-05-18 11:05:00	My wife and I play Fear multiplayer head to head over our wireless LAN. Tonight, we had random, uninvited strangers join our game. Because its just a LAN game, rather than via an internet server, we don't bother putting a password on the game - I thought only people on our local network could join, and it's just the two of us on our network. Does this sound like a case of someone in the neighbourhood hitching onto our wireless connection? Or has our LAN game somehow got broadcast onto internet servers? Before you ask, I have WEP enabled on our wireless router.	Lizard (2409)
886029	2010-05-18 11:19:00	Use WPA or WPA2 or better, and put a password on it. Other people maybe using it to get net access. You'll probably find out, when you get your bill. Its not the password for the game you have to worry about, if you dont secure your wireless, other people will use it / your net access	Speedy Gonzales (78)
886030	2010-05-18 11:21:00	There's the good chance that even though it's a LAN-game, it's being broadcast to the internet some how. When you set it up, see if there's the option of making it private or LAN-only, rather than public or listed online. The chances of somebody else sitting outside your house (Neighbors even) who have the same game, and happen to be scanning for games at the same time as you play, are pretty much nil, so I doubt that it's your wireless. Good on ya for getting your wife into gaming :D Mine plays DotA on occasion ... I savor those moments!	Chilling_Silence (9)

886035	2010-05-19 07:53:00	I'll look into WPA2, but I think last time I gave that a go, the Ipod Touch wouldn't connect. Chill - I agree that it is unlikely that someone local has tapped our network. I guess when I set up the game, and I chose "LAN", that meant "not on the Internet", but in the future I guess I'll chuck a password on the game just to be sure. And yes, I know I am very lucky to have a wife who games as much as I do. It would be even better if I won once in a while! She has a knack for knowing where I'll be at any given moment and emptying a clip into my cranium... On a side note - can anyone explain the lag in some of the FEAR multiplayer maps? It's only on her computer (a laptop), but it's not in all the maps, and it doesn't matter whether it's wired or wireless, or whether she hosts or I do. Is it possible that some maps are just badly designed and laggier than others? When it happens, it seems to be worst when we run into each other and start shooting. But as I said, only on some maps, others are fine... :confused:	Lizard (2409)
886036	2010-05-19 12:05:00	What happens if you throw down a smoke grenade in front of her, does it also "lag" then? I'd suggest checking her graphics card, potentially updating the drivers for it, and toning down some of the settings like anti-aliasing etc It's OK, my wifes the same in DotA, except she manages to steal all my kills with the last hit ;)	Chilling_Silence (9)
886037	2010-05-20 09:17:00	My first thought was graphics too, after all it's only Mobility Radeon HD 3470 (I think) so it's pretty basic. When it first started lagging, I turned all the graphic settings down to minimum, but it made no difference. And on some maps it's fine. So we've basically just marked the ones which lag, and only load them up when she's leading 5 games to nil... ;) I've been out of the games world until the last few months, so forgive the ignorance - what is DotA?
