1153952 2010-11-18 10:57:00 And if i delete the primary ide channel entry, wont it stop recognising my hard drive?

Like I said it'll come back after you reboot. Windows will re-detect it

1153955 2010-11-18 11:55:00 you said it wouldn't **** up my computer.

Why is it, that when i restarted, it didnt restart and it's like its in standby mode.

the hard drive lights stays lit up, and nothing shows on the monitor.

no screen what so ever. nothing, zilch, blackness.

1153959 2010-11-18 18:57:00 to answer a Question:

Oh, im thinking of getting a new motherboard. do motherboards still support ddr400 ram?

Simple answer is NO -- Your current board also has a socket 462 CPU - those boards have not been in construction for several years. Its almost impossible to find a New one unless someone has one laying about someplace. You may get a second hand one from somewhere like trademe, but thats about all.

New boards have either DDR2 or DDR3.

What Speedy suggested about removing:
you said it wouldn't **** up my computer. If things were working correctly it should have picked it back up on startup.

If it hasn't then one of two things are the cause.
1. Board or some other hardware is stuffed
2. Windows install was Stuffed

or could be a dud IDE ribbon as well - thats easy to change. One way to tell which one - look in the BIOS - see if its detecting the HDD, if it is then at least its kind of working.

If you have a spare HDD, attach that, and see if you can boot from the Windows CD and install Windows. if that installs and the HDD is OK then the original OS was toast.

1153961 2010-11-18 22:25:00 My computer was having a moment.

It's started up this morning.

The start up is still slow, but there is no sound lag so far.

Now all i gotta do is figure out why my start up is going slow.
