887016 2010-05-24 07:23:00 just to add to that chaos, young miss know it all here has just knicked mums car while shes away on holiday. 17, on learners, doesn't give a toss, can't drive for ***, is now driving around NZ's most dangerous roads in crap weather. cops can't do anything until mum reports it stolen. tweak'e (69)

Re the Whangarei 'accident'

From the comments in the article, this guy was a Whangarei local, and as such he would have known this stretch of road well.
It beggars belief that he would be gunning the engine downhill on the approach to this turn. In wet weather this turn is scary enough at 60 (it's posted limit is 50 - the road speed opens up to 70 only after this turn).
Thanks to the downhill approach, you typically approach this turn under breaks, not under throttle.
It's a turn that has taken many lives, typically always thanks to very excessive speeds, and booze. There's also a distinct lack of cambre to this corner, which doesn't help, but honestly, it's madness to tackle this turn at speed!

The only lesson, is bad judgement kills. Lucky it's only them it killed in this case.

So one good thing comes of dipshits speeding.

Now you can't blame them for this. There were always dickheads around and these will always be. I've seen guys in their 40s and 50s driving commodores and falcons and hell even in SUVs, utes and vans who drives just as bad if not worse, you just ignore them because they couldn't possibly have been hooning... So we call it an accident and forget about it.

What you are forgetting mate, is that the 40-50 yr old hooners, have alot more experience with car control, so dont even try to condone 17 yr old boy racers with experienced drivers please...they are not in the same league!

update: little miss know it all lasted all of two days before crashing the stolen car. so much for her "i can drive". fortunately no one hurt and she has been charged by police.

And your sayin that its ok for the 40-50 y/o's to drive a little faster cos they have the experience? I'm not a fan of boyracers, they make everyone who enjoys their car look bad.

I myself am not the best driver (legally speaking) but Im probaly better off in some cases than say a 40 y/o woman whos never lost control of her car. At least I would have some clue on how to recover
