886312 2010-05-20 05:22:00 I can get from Tokoroa to Wellington on one tank of gas. The RAV4 has an economy mode for normal use. If I want to pass in a hurry I just hit the PWR button on the dashboard.

That's only about 450km, how big is the tank?

886313 2010-05-20 05:23:00 I just compared in reviews a 1995:-
Corolla 1800cc = 8.1 L/100K
RAV4 2000cc = 8.6 L/100K

Doesn't look all that excessive to me.

I did have a 2 litre 6 cyl Mazda that was really thirsty by comparison.

Just means the 1.8 Corolla and the RAV4 both used excessive gas. Bit like nearly virgin.

I perhaps should have added that I also have fuel left in the tank when I get there.

886315 2010-05-20 05:35:00 I drive a manual 1.6 Corolla for work, that thing has a 45l tank and gets over 500km every time a coconut. Mostly used around town and when we're in a hurry...it's very economical. The 1.3l lancer goes through more fuel. wratterus (105)
886316 2010-05-20 06:27:00 When getting a fresh vehicle, make sure the clock is set to daylight saving time. I didn't, and every summer it annoys the heck out of me. R2x1 (4628)
886317 2010-05-20 07:03:00 Don't forget to change the radio so it brings in NZ stations. :-) Sweep (90)
886318 2010-05-20 07:43:00 Yes, have to say the Corollas are winning at present, missed out on a two though, they go quick.

Had a look at a Cmary this morning, nah, crappy looking if newer than mine. Car dealer fussed about the 335000kms on mine, then proceeded to tell me all about the lovely (other) Corolla he had there, only 300000 odd km!!

Right.

Mines fine apart from the clutch, which isn't dead, it just shudders on takeoff unless you ride it.

I have replaced cam belt and tyres and it just got its last warrant last week so I'm not in a hurry really. Just annoying being in traffic, in gear, out of gear etc endlessly.......
Are yoiu sure its the clutch? It also sounds like a broken engine mount.....

886319 2010-05-20 23:34:00 Well spotted plod it could be engine mounts or the bushes in the anti torque engine stay link prefect (6291)
886320 2010-05-21 00:24:00 6months ago got a Toyota Corolla Fielder. Essentially a station wagon. 1.8 auto and 2001 model, 75k on clock. Excellent running. Great space and rear seats fold flat, Just waltzed through a warrant this am. Have had 14.8/litre on run in ordinary traffic. Easy turning, good for small space parking.

Highly recommended

Should get one for around 11500-12500 with well under 100km on the clock.

886321 2010-05-21 00:34:00 It IS the clutch. Whatever. I'm giving it to my son.
Take longer for him to kill it....

I'm not spending more than $2500.

Seen 2 already, the last I nearly bought. Seeing another on then weekend.
