885831 2010-05-18 03:23:00 A government should be judged by how much it improves the lot of everyone,
or failing that the greatest number possible.
This lot are of course wholly and solely for the rich.
To have expected anything except what we are getting,
would require naivety or a stupidity that beggars belief.

National is governing in a recession biggest since 1929 Labor would have made things much worse because of their commy tendencies.

885832 2010-05-18 03:26:00 National borrows, gets the country into a heap of debt and Labour comes along and gets things back in order and it all starts again with National borrowing money.

Very disappointing, hope your truck goes thru the ice.

885833 2010-05-18 03:37:00 National have a plan to boost employment. Just before the budget they will mobilise 65,000 long-term unemployed people to post all the Government's promisess on Tui billboards. R2x1 (4628)
885834 2010-05-18 03:43:00 I haven't read all the replies. I don't see it that bad thou I would of done it differently myself :p

Sure, you could give more to the poor but internationally NZ doesn't look good with a high corp and individual tax rate.

It provides the wrong incentives too. People should be encourage to work hard and be successful and not be taxed more. I'm of the opinion of a flat tax rate. So everyone pays the same tax rate. NZ is fortunatel it still has a decent support system, just look at some of the other countries, even of those who do, there well be more restrictions.

I was told some of them say, if you not worked or studied before you cannot get it. If you get it there are some fixed weeks/yrs to get it then it stops. NZ also has a decent health care system than others. Try asking some international people incl English migrants (as I have). They think it's like a private facility or hotel. Me and others who have stayed in hospital haven't complained about the food even well just one meal of the 7 days I was there. That is Wellington city. We were even given a menu :D

Their breakfast was more substantial than my quick meal in the morning. Selection of white or wholemeal toast, selection of cereals, milk or soya, coffee or tea, fresh fruits and yoghurt. At dinner there were fish or terrayaki chicken. I certainly grateful of my care, 7 days in ICU with a caregiver(s) 24/7 and a pacemaker. A week in and I got myself patched up.

885835 2010-05-18 03:50:00 Recession is being used disingenuously to justify
pareing back workers wages and conditions!
Meanwhile the rich and powerful get more than they ever have,
even though the recession was caused by the very same rich and powerful,
with their greed and shonkey dealings.
(the same sort of unsustainable dealings John Key made his millions from)

How the wealthy dodge tax

And why wouldn't you use the rules to your advantage. From what I've read here, you are very similar to me in that you work damn hard for your money. Why let the tax department rape and pillage more than they need do? Why wouldn't you take measures to protect your income if you had the means and the opportunity?

That article you link to illustrates the folly of a graduated tax system. If everyone paid the same rate of tax there would be far less incentive to play the system... And far more incentive to work harder knowing that you weren't gong to exceed some arbitrary level of income and get taxed at a higher rate

885839 2010-05-18 23:25:00 Which is why I like flat tax rate .
Everyone pays the same rate . The more or less you earn you are not more/less proportionally affected .

There are heaps of way to lower your pay .
Even if you cannot claim back on your property thingy . I am sure that you could somehow turn it in a more full business model so you can .

You could also put it in a trustee or a international trustee in a tax haven country under tax secrecy laws . NZ even has tax secrecy laws given they have a voluntary tax system .

However me thinks if you do have a flat tax system the welfare side is still able to be frauded . Rich people could devalue themself and maybe not get tax back, they get the welfare - as some do . Bankrupted finance CEOs get the dole or the sickness dole after having loads of stuff locked in family trusts .

885840 2010-05-18 23:40:00 The funny thing is there's a HUGE outcry when one area of the country has to pay like 1c per-litre more than the rest of the country for fuel.

Yet when one echelon has to pay significantly higher taxes, they're slammed for crying foulplay?
