1153912 2010-11-18 05:03:00 Were you doing the defrag in safe mode in the first place? Snorkbox (15764)
1153913 2010-11-18 05:07:00 Use defraggler. The new version will defrag before it boots into windows

Select the option in its menu first

i cannot not currently get into windows successfully.

1153915 2010-11-18 05:21:00 No you install it like any other program. Its a windows program Speedy Gonzales (78)
1153916 2010-11-18 05:22:00 Just install it then reboot. SoniKalien (792)
1153917 2010-11-18 05:26:00 You need to select settings / boot time defrag in the menu first. It wont do it automatically after you install it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1153918 2010-11-18 05:38:00 you can try booting from the XP, go into the recovery console, run chkdsk /r it may or may not fix the problem, then again it could make it worse (if thats possible).

Generally speaking, if a system wont even boot into safe mode, which is the real basic OS and basic Drivers, then there is a lot of corruption in the system files, or some really screwed up drivers someplace.

Failing that you can run system restore back to before yesterday since that was when it was going Ok as posted in the 6th post.

If you want to do a restore in DOS since it wont load in safe mode download These instructions (www.box.net) , print them off and follow TO THE LETTER - they are a bit long but they are more accurate than some of the other DOS commands, these let you select restore points.

I tried that BTW. It moves and defrags the Page File in that mode but does not defrag the whole partition as I ran another defrag after the boot time one and C: was still 4% fragged.

1153920 2010-11-18 06:11:00 Do it in windows then. Or use auslogics defrag. At least that defrags more than 1 partition at a time. I usually disable SR. Since thats why it takes ages to defrag sometimes Speedy Gonzales (78)
1153921 2010-11-18 06:55:00 speedy, how many times do i have to explain? i can't get into windows.

@wanuitech: its stuck on "Examining Disk Configuration" and it's yet to go into the recovery console.

Does anybody have anything that might actually work?

Thanks for the help so far.

I dont get it. my pc was running fine untill yesterday.
