Had a look at a Cmary this morning, nah, crappy looking if newer than mine. Car dealer fussed about the 335000kms on mine, then proceeded to tell me all about the lovely (other) Corolla he had there, only 300000 odd km!! Right. Mines fine apart from the clutch, which isn't dead, it just shudders on takeoff unless you ride it. I have replaced cam belt and tyres and it just got its last warrant last week so I'm not in a hurry really. Just annoying being in traffic, in gear, out of gear etc endlessly....... |

I would jack the car onto some blocks of wood, pull off the gearbox, remove old clutch check condition of flywheel surface (if its rooted may need to whip off flywheel and get machined get another clutch kit from Exedy on Wairau road (bugga all) fit clutch. They dont charge for machining sometimes if buy the clutch kit from them supreme good bastards these guys. Although the boss is known to wind people up for no other reason than he likes to but he knows clutches. Dont bother taking it to a garage it will go from a cheap job to expensive because they whack on heaps onto the parts and charge for 4 hours but take 1 hour charge for consumables etc and do unnecessary work. Even a girl could change the clutch of a japper. |

On a motoring Forum a Rav (not late model) had worse fuel consumption than either Falcon XR8/Commodore SS. A lot of people are surprised at the cost of a cambelt replacement |

| 886307 | 2010-05-20 01:54:00 | Even a girl could change the clutch of a japper. Sick of clutches. I had a Triumph that I killed the clutch in in traffic. Replaced that then the gearbox went. Got a Corolla and had to do the clutch, Now this Corolla and again..clutch. |

| 886309 | 2010-05-20 02:34:00 | Three of my friends had Rav 4's & quit them because of the very poor fuel economy! They wore lead boots did they? I can get from Tokoroa to Wellington on one tank of gas. The RAV4 has an economy mode for normal use. If I want to pass in a hurry I just hit the PWR button on the dashboard. |

Cant get at top bell housing bolts unless you cut a hole in the floor. Triumph Toledo Dolimite 1500 pig as well got to pull the gearbox up and into the car. Never done a clutch on a Herald or vitesse . If the designer of pig models Trumpies is still alive and I meet him he is going to get an earfull. Funny thing I have heard RAV4 thirsty bitches as well so Sweep your one must be lean runner. Next thing Joe will say those monster truck things the size of a house he owns are economical My wife had 2 litre Kia Sportage we just couldnt afford to run it used more gas than my mates 302 XD coon. He was a Pb foot as well. Got manual Ford Ka does 40 mpg on trip easy. |

| 886311 | 2010-05-20 05:21:00 | I just compared in reviews a 1995:- Corolla 1800cc = 8.1 L/100K RAV4 2000cc = 8.6 L/100K Doesn't look all that excessive to me. I did have a 2 litre 6 cyl Mazda that was really thirsty by comparison. |
