1155068 2010-11-21 17:05:00 My trusty old desktop will not boot. :waughh:

BIOS indicates that both HD's are not detected (CD and DVD drives are detected).

I checked for loose connectors and wiggled the HD plugs, but it still will not boot.

WinXP, 3G P4 ASUS mobo, Corsair ps (about 2 yrs old)

Can I check something else or is the mobo :badpc: stuffed?

1155069 2010-11-21 18:53:00 What are the Connections IDE or SATA ?

If you are able, (correct connections) attach the HDD to where the optical drive is (leave the optical drives off) see if the HDD is detected. If it is then the problem could be on the board, if not then maybe the PSU is not powering up the drives, or the HDD is dead.

1155070 2010-11-21 20:54:00 Whats the model of the mobo? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1155071 2010-11-21 21:00:00 if they are IDE drives sharing a cable try them individually - remember to set drive to master if it's the only drive connected and to set one back to slave when there are 2 on the same cable dugimodo (138)

SATA . The optical drives have a 5 point power plug, the two SATA's have different power plugs .

1155073 2010-11-21 21:32:00 Is the power for the SATA, from the PSU or a molex connection? If molex, its probably not making contact properly Speedy Gonzales (78)

The SATA power cable is from the ps (Corsair).

1155076 2010-11-22 01:39:00 Are the hdds SATA 2?? If they are, that mobo only supports SATA 1. You need to jumper those hdd's to SATA 1 / 150. For them to be recognised Speedy Gonzales (78)
1155077 2010-11-22 01:44:00 Make a Puppy Linux disk and see if it detects the drives, This will tell you if its a hardware or software issue.
