887797 2010-05-24 11:01:00 Hi guys

In an earlier thread we discussed the first episode and the general reaction was that it was no where as good as Band Of Brothers, but that it needed time to develop.

What are your thoughts on the series now that it over half way through ?

887799 2010-05-24 11:39:00 Disgustingly horrible, particularly tonight's episode. Too much gratuitous violence and so I just turned it off. pretty boring too and no good characters or storyline.
I won't watch it anymore.

That was a Hollywood story with minimal basis in fact after the opening scenes .

Yes it's too bad war is like that. Leckie, one of the authors whose books inspired the script said "I have to tell the story of how it really was. I have to let people know the war wasn’t a musical." Sledge also did not understand why other memoirs were sanitised.

887801 2010-05-24 12:08:00 One way to describe it is that Band of Brothers was in technicolour but The Pacific is monochrome, . It is hard to track the key characters, continuity isn't too good, and there are too may computer generated effects. If I see any more planes flying in formation to nowhere in particular while soldiers are grunting it on the ground I'll scream.

Filmed in Australia, and it looks like it.

Hopefully it will improve, it is going to have to!

Cheers

887802 2010-05-24 12:28:00 I love this series and I know how it ends the japs lose big time. prefect (6291)
887803 2010-05-24 12:42:00 I don't think its awesome or anything, but you can't ignore the fact it is of a high quality, much better than normal programming, amirite? Netsukeninja (13296)
887804 2010-05-24 13:06:00 With the same production team as Band of Brothers one would have expected a series with similar flow and continuous story line - This has not happened with Pacific - the series is disjointed, and in parts dopesn't flow in any form of natural sequence .
The series does portray well the horrendous level of casualties inflicted on forces carrying out a beach landing against a determined defence .

During WW2 American combat fatalities averaged 3000 men a week .

The estimated loss of 1 million US dead and probably more than 4 million Japanese casualties in an invasion of the Japanese Main Islands more than justifies the use of nuclear weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to cut short the war

They will all survive as they are invincible or think they are.
