888100 2010-05-25 20:57:00 For anyone who missed it, I've just seen the funniest interview in years, almost had tears running down my face in disbelief.

Some "parent" from Boganville (aka Christchurch) is on Close Up because he heard a **** radio show was running a hug a ginga promotion. He argues it is racist against his two sons and will get them bullied at school, he even said Ginga's aren't protected by the Bill Of Rights (oh please - that was a killer). He drags the poor young guys on TV and makes a compete dork of himself, says he's been speaking to Human Rights.

It's Priceless comedy. Poor kids will be embarrassed tomorrow at school for having been on TV with a loony Dad.

I think the Dad made a fool of himself and his kids.
I liked when they asked the little kid about if he was teased at school.
There was a pause, the father looks, nudges the kid. The kid says
Yes I am. (like the father told him to say that) just sounded fake.
Then the father says "These two red hair boys" I thought he was trying to get away from the red hair thing, and yet calls his own sons red hair boys.
(Colour of hair should not matter)
You could see Dom was trying not to burst out laughing.
At the end you see the little kid with his hands in his head, thinking
Dad when are you going to shut up.

888102 2010-05-25 23:48:00 If I was a ginga I would be p****d off as well, why pick on redheads?, whats wrong with Blackheads, Whiteheads, Baldheads, Blondheads, Skinheads. How would you like some dickhead giving you a hug just because a radio station DORK says to hug a redhead?. And no, i'm not a red, what there is left is all white.

Can you imagine - a "Hug a Skinhead Day" (maybe that's what they need)??? :D

"Hug a Blackhead Day"??? Yuk, nasty connotations there!!

Well, to be honest, I thought you would of supported him.....I have to say that that was the best ever interview from Sainsbury, probably because he just kept quite, and I also have to say, that I agree with the guy.....

The Radio ad quantifies its hugga a ginga because they are usually taking the piss of, now the ad is only going to increase the ginga mentality....

888104 2010-05-26 03:03:00 Unfortunately I think those two kids are going to grow up with far greater problems than being red haired if their father has anything to do with it! To be honest, he should have just let it go by without any comment, rather than making his kids the target of bullies by drawing attention to the day. If he feels that bad about it, he could always keep them home from school that day!

My husband wants to know if I'm going out that day - I'm a ginga (by choice, blonde by birth!) and he's worried I'm going to be accosted by strange men! I wish!

Sad. Embarassing for the kids. But not funny.

888106 2010-05-26 04:45:00 Seriously, it's a bit of fun as a promotion for listeners of that radio show, it's not the first year they've done it and it didn't end up with some twat going on close-up etc in past years. What's the issue? Just a bunch of uptight twits needing their latest nothing to get upset over and try and get some attention.

The fathers actions are doing more harm to his kids than any radio show ever could.

The whole Ginga thing is relatively new. When I was at college about 15 years ago, people who had red hair weren't hassled like they are today, and they weren't referred to and Gingas. Gingers and ginger nuts, yes, but not gingas. Sure there was a tiny bit of ribbing, but nothing compared to today. I think the guy on closeup did have a point, but I think he didn't help his cause by appearing irrational.
