But as everyone else is saying, there story line is disjointed, and the characters are hard to follow. I think they are trying to say that the war in the Pacific was hell (and it was) But I don't think I'd ever want to watch the series again, unlike Band of Brothers, which is well worth several watches. (By the way I agree about the need to drop those atomic bombs, invading Japan would have meant millions of casualties on both sides - they still didn't surrender after the first one !) |

It is hard to track the key characters, continuity isn't too good, and there are too may computer generated effects. If I see any more planes flying in formation to nowhere in particular while soldiers are grunting it on the ground I'll scream. As soon as the airfield on Peleliu was secured there was a squadron of Corsairs flying like top dressers dropping Napalm in advance of the Marines. There would have been a constant stream of them. Burnt out bush does tend to be monochrome :p The only problem with continuity that I have is the rate of advertising. |

| 887812 | 2010-05-24 21:15:00 | I think it is pretty good. Showing people what war was really like, not Hollywood style and that people did get there arms legs blown off or there guts and brains spread all over the place. There is no surrender in the Japaneses language, fight to the death right down to the last man even when you are out numbered. :) |

| 887814 | 2010-05-24 22:01:00 | Just another thing the story line is based on letters sent by the soldiers to there love ones and family's back in the States. :) |

| 887815 | 2010-05-24 22:05:00 | Having watched the whole series, I have to say it is not nearly as good a watch as BoB. Yes, it has been brutal & gritty but it doesn't have the same flow or good storylines that BoB had. Shame, I was hoping for something similar. |

Apparently Japan did want to surrender, but the United States needed to test both uranium and plutonium based nuclear weapons in war. nuclearfiles.org But you'll probably find information to support both sides of the argument. |
